Area of Expertise

Extension (75%) is focused on working with the certified seed potato program in Colorado, disease reduction in certified seed stocks, and management of seed borne disease and pest problems. Education about the benefits of using high quality seed is a priority. Research (25%) is directed toward understanding and managing various diseases of potatoes under Colorado conditions including, but not limited to, bacterial ring rot, blackleg and soft rot, powdery scab, early blight and the viruses, potato leafroll and PVY. Projects dealing with greenhouse management and tissue culture production as used in the certification program are also priorities.
