Lisa Somnis is a Landscape Horticulture major with a concentration in Landscape Design and Contracting. She will graduate in May with a 3.8 grade point average.
In the last three years at Colorado State University Lisa has been involved in many events, clubs, and activities related to the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture, such as member and president in Pi Alpha Xi (2004-2006) and SOLDAC (2003-2006) and a student coordinator and competitor for ALCA career days (2004)-2006). She was also involved with creating the College of Ag Homecoming float, writing the curriculum for Ag Adventure, driving for Ram Ride, H 100 tutoring, CSU Ag Day, and setting up at the ProGreen Expo. She feels it is important to be involved in campus activities and strive to motivate others to join or participate.
Through CSU connections and experiences, Lisa has furthered her service outside of the CSU campus in the green industry. Through these connections she has helped design and install various projects for large and small communities. She has also experimented with some of the new materials or devices used in landscaping such as sub-terrain irrigation and green roofs. These experiences have shown her how important it is to use a continual learning approach to all aspects of this industry. But her volunteering doesn’t just apply to the green industry. Throughout her life she has found it important to volunteer and support great causes such as Habitat for Humanity and Relay for Life.
