The 2005 Professional Landcare Network (Planet) Student Career Days event was held at the University of Maryland in College Park, March 19-22.
The CSU team won first place overall, which included a $5,000 grand prize. The CSU team of 16 included students from the Landscape Design and Contracting, Turfgrass, and Floriculture concentrations. Fifty-seven universities and colleges and over 800 students competed in 23 events.
This is the third time the CSU teams have won first place in the last five years.
Individual successes were as follows:
Annual and Perennial Identification: Amy Erfling, 5th place, and Brennon Miles, 6th place.
Compact Utility Loader Operation - Aaron Kiselich, 5th place.
Exterior Landscape Design - Courtney Lockwood, 1st place.
Construction Cost Estimating - Meghan Bowser, 1st place and Lisa Somnis, 4th place.
Interior Landscape Design - Courtney Lockwood, 3rd place.
Irrigation Trouble Shooting - Chad Whitney, 5th place.
Personnel Management - Clark Taylor & Meghan Oren, 2nd place.
Woody Ornamental Plant Identification - Amy Erfling, 3rd place.
In addition, Danielle Jacobson and Amy Erfling won $1,000 scholarships, and Professor Grant Reid received the Educator of Year Award. |
